Some friends have often asked, "Why do you go to Johor Bahru (JB) almost every other weekend?" Well, there are many little jewels in the city and hence, here are my 10 reasons.
10 reasons for crossing the causeway
1. Cheap Massage in Johor
A 1hr full body massage that would normall cost $100 in Sg will only cost you SGD$25 in JB.
There are many outlets that open until 2am.
The one I often frequent is called
Bangkok Spa
Address: 58 Jalan Abiad, Taman Tebrau Jaya,
80400 Johor Bahru, Malaysia (Taman pelangi)
Tel: +607-338 2277
Opening hours: 11am - 5am
#Tourist Tip: Pls do call in advance to book an appointment as the place is normally packed with Singaporeans from 10pm onwards.
2. Lok Lok
This refers to cooking food on sticks which one often sees in Malaysia, Taiwan, China etc but not in Singapore. There are many makeshift stores operating from the boots of trucks/lorries. My favourite stick food has got to be the century quail eggs. Yes, quail eggs that are black in colour, century egg style!
3. A&W
While A&W has closed down in Singapore, fans do not fret as the ones in Malaysia are still operating. I usually go to one at Jusco in Permas Jaya.
JUSCO Permas Jaya Shopping Centre
No 1, Jalan Permas Jaya Utara
Bandar Baru Permas Jaya
81750 Johor Bahru
Johor
Phone No : 07-3860600
Fax No : 07-3861600
Business Hour : 10:30am – 11:00pm
4. Pump petrol
5. Supermarket
Due to the difference in exchange rate, some household brands are cheaper. Take your pick of supermarkets from The Store to Jusco to Giant. All offer good discounts on everyday needs.
6. Pedicure
Get your pedicure fix at half the price you pay in Singapore while sitting on a comfortable cushioned chair, watching TV while the manicurist beautifies your nails. I usually head to Glamorous Nail Spa at Plaza Sentosa
Glamorous Nail Spa
Blk F, Unit 25
Plaza Sentosa
7. Manicure
Similar to pedicure, I usually go for a full mani session as charges are half the price of what one pays in Sg. Nail art is also cheaper as compared to Sg. I did a full mani+pedi session WITH nail art at SGD30.
#Tourist Tip: There are also other mani+pedi stores around the big shopping malls of KSL City and City Square. All provide relatively cheap pricing.
8. Wash, cut and blow
Hair salons are also cheaper here! As I usually get my nail fixed at the mall in Plaza Sentosa, it is thus also convenient to get my hair fixed here. There are quite a few hair salons to choose from. So if I'm in need of a small trim and wash, I'll just pop into one.
9. Malaysian Food
I usually head to Cedar Point Food Centre behind the famous Paragon hotel. There's a huge variety of hawker food available including lok lok, sea food, oyster omelette, satay, KL hokkien mee etc. Singaporeans usually go there for the cheap seafood!

10. Get away from the hustle and bustle of city life
