Slurp Slurp... I am still drooling over this extra thick Mee Rebus gravy...
Last weekend saw me(e) trying this Mee Rebus store which was just a 10 minutes drive from the Woodlands causeway. This Mee Rebus was so SHIOK and SEDAP thanks to the generous amount of thick gravy that was served. Apart from the thick gravy, I also liked how this dish came with many generous slices of shredded chicken and of course the compulsory hard boiled egg. (Hehe, truth be told, I'm not really a fan of the other garnishes though.)
Prices of Mee Rebus start from RM5 which roughly translate to SGD1.95. If you're still hungry after your bowl of Mee Rebus, there are other Malay dishes available too. Do consider trying their Nasi Lemak, Mee Soto Ayam and Nasi Briyani etc. Are you hungry now?
Address| 89, Jalan Keris, Taman Sri Tebrau, 80050 Johor Bahru
Getting here| From the Woodlands causeway, go straight down to Lebuhraya Tebrau road and turn right into Jalan Keris. Its along a row of shophouses with open space parking available directly opposite the coffee shop.
For dinner, I was around the Bukit Indah area and hence decided to try Jayne's tse char recommendation. She has done an extremely well detailed writeup on how to get here. Do check out her blog.
The good thing about this place is that there are a few other seafood tse char restaurants for you to take your pick from.
Cereal prawn
A common seafood dish which I usually order these days. You know what the problem about tse char is? You will usually want to order what you love to eat but that may not necessary be the chef's speciality. So after finishing this dish, I'm pretty happy to announce that this restaurant's plate of prawns didn't fail on me. They were sweet, chewy and fresh!
Black pepper crab
For this dish, I wasn't too please with the texture of the crabs as it was rather mushy. I guess maybe I'm too used to eating juicy succulent Sri Lankan crabs.
KL Hokkein mee
This was the best dish amongst all the dishes order! The warm plate of noodles was drenched in the thick black sauce and oozed out the flavour of the lard. The chef added in bits of chicken slices and sotong to make it even more delicious. Thumbs up to this dish.
House speciality: fried squid
Why did I order this dish??? Well I was what you would call a tourist falling into the tourist trap. The auntie was like, "Xiao Mei you must eat this. It's our house speciality. It's really good." So there I was listening to her sales talk and buying it while I pictured a really fanciful spread of sotong being served up to me. But low and behold, a simple grilled sotong soaked in soya sauce was what greeted me. Although simple, this grilled sotong is worth a try if you're one sotong fan.
The evening's total damage came up to SGD 41. I must say its definitely decent pricing for decent food.
