The family had our reunion dinner at Hung Kang, a Teochew restaurant along North Canal Road. A two storey restaurant, it was packed to the brim on new year's eve. For our set menu, we had
Teochew prosperity raw fish
Shark's fin soup with crap meat and shredded fish maws
Steamed pomfret Teochew style
Teochew sliced duck meat
Whole abalone with other marine treasures in traditional pot
Teochew fried noodles
Sweet yam paste with mandarin orange
The food was prepared in advance and the waitresses were frantically dishing out one dish after another. At times, we even had 2 dishes coming out at one go. You could feel that they were rushing us through our dinner. I don't blame there though. There was another dinner session after ours. Apart from the rush, the food looked and tasted lacklustre. For my family, we do not cook. Hence, the convenience of having someone prepare our reunion dinner, was the draw. We have been coming here for the past two years. Unless someone is willing to start doing the cooking at home, I wouldn't be surprise if next year, we do come back here again.
