I've always wanted to dine at SKIRT. Not just for its steak but also for its ambience. Yes, call me superficial but I'm into the whole romantic ambience thing when it comes to fine dining. We dined at SKIRT on the eve of a public holiday. Prior to our dinner, I had tried to make a reservation but was told they were fully booked till 9pm. 9pm it shall be then.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the fanciful interiors which decorated the entire restaurant. There were forks and knives hanging alongside the lights of the restaurants as diners ate under these furniture. We were given a booth seat and that made for a more romantic setting. As we had arrived pretty late, there were some meats which were sold out.
As with most fine dining restaurants, we were offered a basket of bread before our mains were served.
We were also served a plate of amuse bouche which came in the form of salty ham slices.
We were served these two bottles and the left one came as surprise to us. We were told to drink up the left bottle before digging into our steaks. Turns out, the bottle on the left was a bottle of Apple bourbon which was served in preparation of the steaks which we were going to have.
The first main we had was the black angus ribeye. The meat was soft and melted in my mouth.
The second mains we had was also a black angus but we chose the tenderloin. This was harder and had a lesser melt in your mouth sensation. It required a bit more of chewing but tasted equally as good.
To accompany our mains, we ordered two side dishes which were cooked really well. The first consisted of onion fries and the second, creamy spinach with cheese.
Service was generally acceptable. The restaurant was having an almost full house and it was sometimes rather hard to catch the attention of the service staff. However, upon catching their attention, they were friendly and extremely service oriented. I would recommend this place for couples and business dinners. You can tell the steaks served are of a certain quality and not those from cows that people do not want. The posh ambience adds a nice finishing touch to the whole experience and I would be back again when my wallet allows me to. For two people, we spent about $270 for everything. Oh yes, didn't take pictures but we both had an after meal digestive too. I had this sweet drink called Amaretto Disaronno while he had the jagermeisters.
