Foodie updates

Sorry for the lack of the updates. I've been under the weather recently with a dam bad sore throat and that has kept me in bed for most of my afternoons and nights. Finally managed to feel a tad bit better and so I shall take this opportunity to do a food update.

After quite a bit of bugging and one failed attempt, I finally managed to drag the boy out to town to try our first Kaiseki together. Well if you should know, my boy is a coffee shop boy at heart and he hates crowds. So a dinner date at a restaurant in crowded Orchard road is usually a big no no to him. But he does give in to me once in awhile, and so I should be thankful for that. Thanks M!

(Pic above) We shared two Kaiseki sets between us at Hana Restaurant in Forum. Most of the patrons were having a hotpot meal but we chose the Kaiseki to get a 1-for-1 offer on the entertainer app. We had the Sushi Kaiseki and Mini Kaiseki. Both cost $48 and $68 respectively. The best part of the Kaiseki was the cod fish and the Sashimi.

During the Vesak Day holiday, we did a bit of splurging and headed back again for the Teppanyaki buffet at Shima Restaurant. This time, we brought our friends along. Shima Restaurant is located within the compound of Goodwood Park hotel. During the Teppanyaki experience, the chef will cook a variety of food in-front of you. And it being a buffet, you get served unlimited amounts of each dish. The buffet includes dishes such as oysters, beef and sashimi slices. My favourite part of the buffet? Well it is definitely hands down the fried prawns cooked with garlic and butter. Do ask the chef to add in some extra garlic for an even tastier experience! If you are headed down in a big crowd and would like to sit in-front of the chef, do call and reserve in advance. This place was close to full house when we were there on a public holiday.

I know of many places that sell the all time favourite molten chocolate cake. But how many can actually get both the texture on the outside and inside right? At Dan Ryan's, the cake is crispy on the outside and oozing with liquid on the inside. Pair it with a scoop of ice-cream and you've got the best hot and cold feeling in this world. One plate serves two people and costs approximately around $15.

The boy is not really an ang moh brunch kind of person and hence our weekend brunches normally see us at the hawker centre around our heartland. A hawker centre we enjoy going to, is the one situated at Kebun Bahru Market & Food Centre. The store called Hong Heng Beef Noodles, is famous for its beef noodles, although they do make a good bowl of laksa too. I like that their beef is fresh and this is evident from the taste and texture of the beef balls and beef slices. I also like how the store owners are very generous with the amount of beef served and how the cincalok pairs so nicely with the beef. A bowl of noodles here is definitely better than what you would normally get at a foodcourt. Each bowl of beef noodles costs $4.50.
