Otto Ristorante

Situated in a quiet corner of the Red Dot Traffic Building, this Italian restaurant gets the thumbs up for its friendly waiters and good quality food.

It was a Monday afternoon. You know, those afternoons when you have a really bad bout of Monday blues? I suggested having dinner to chase those blues away. My eating buddy suggested indulging in some good food as a happy pill. We married the two ideas and ta da, we found ourselves dining at Otto on a Monday night.   We ordered two main set meals;  the Degustation Menu and the Gourmet Menu

Degustation Menu
$88++

Wagyu beef “Carpaccio” with parmesan cheese and mushroom salad

Livorno style “Seafood soup” in light tomato broth

Homemade squid ink Tagliolini with Dungeness crab and rosemary

Atlantic cod “Tagliata” with “Taggia” black olives crust and sundried tomato pesto

Coffee pannacotta served with white chocolate and grappa Nonino sauce

Gourmet Menu
$128++

Tuna Carpaccio with tuna sauce on vine tomato jelly and arugula

European seabass fillet with sun dried tomato pesto

Crispy suckling pig lacquered with “black locust” tree honey and aged balsamic vinegar

Warm chocolate cake with Haitian vanilla ice cream

not included in pics
+ Pan roasted “Foie Gras” with shallot and port veloute and Sardinian bread
+ Homemade Dutch Veal Ravioli with sage and truffle emulsion

It was a worth while trip to Otto seeing that the Chef did an awesome job in terms of the food quality. The food was tasty and you could tell that this restaurants uses high quality ingredients. For its pricing, perhaps the set menus would be good for those yearly celebrations like anniversaries or birthdays.

Weekend Pig Out 2

Hi guys (: the weekend is almost here again and I'm back with weekend pig out 2
If you're thinking of where to have a quiet or romantic night out with your family or friends, Grand Hyatt's Pete's Place provides a quiet ambience for that special occasion.

Located at the basement of the Grand Hyatt, I dined here thanks to a voucher from DBS :) There is no lift to the entrance of this restaurant, and hence those intending to wear high heels, its going to be a long way down and back up again.

You can expect to savour different types of bread as your appetizer and its comes on the house. (Of course you have to order something first hehe :D)

Dinner was served pretty fast. The folks had not even finished munching on their bread when our mains arrived. I chose the pan seared sea bass which happened to be the fish of the day.

Pasta served with seafood in thick stew.

A pasta dished served with meatballs in a tomato based sauce.

After finishing my mains, I had a special dessert in the form of a glass of Limoncello.

And the folks ended their night on a sweet note too with a bowl of Tiramisu.

And my lovely accessories for that night's dinner: Ferragamo heels, Ferragamo extra large vara flap bag and chain necklace from a vintage store in Siam Square, Bangkok

Weekend Pig Out 1

I've decided to start this new series called 'Weekend Pig Out' to create a log on my foodie adventures.
I've no idea how long this will last. I'm currently at this phase of my life with limited liabilities (no loans) and not married with kids yet, so most of my money goes to indulging during the weekend. Hence, while it lasts, I shall attempt to keep as many journal entries of what goes into my digestive system.

1. Mama Mia! We love pizzas!

We dined here bcos of all the choices available along the stretch of restaurants, he preferred eating pizza. We sat inside at first, but I chose to change our seats as I wanted a better view of the marina. It was a bad choice. The scorching heat melted my makeup and the houseflies kept buzzing around our food. The houseflies were such lightbulbs!! The thin crust pizza was excellent but eating inside would have been a better option.

2. Never saying never to crabs

We both love crabs! And yes its our 2nd time back at the No Signboard Seafood at Geylang. Ok for the record, crabs are not cheap in Singapore. One crab costs about $60 per kg but hey, they are so good and flavourful that we were willing to splurge and go back a 2nd time!

ok this aint no crab. hehe. It's my other fav dish: Mee Goreng
A good thirst quencher but too bad, this is an expensive item in Sg!
And baby, this is what I slogged the whole entire week for. You nasty little thing, finally got my hands on you over the weekend.

Till the next week

Sauce - where cheap beer resides

Sauce, a hangout at Esplanade is known for its chillax setting and cheap beers.
Beers start at $6 per bottle and $25 for a bucket of 5.

As usual food is the first thing on my mind.
The Mentaiko
Spaghetti prepared in Japanese fusion sauce, cooked in cod roe sauce
served with mushrooms and w/o meat
$14

Had to colour this pic as our dear Rivoli is so not photogenic at all!
But taste wise, it had lots of raves from my friends!

The Rivoli
Porcini mushroom rivoli, served on spicy pink Arrabbiata sauce
$20

As usual, fries to accompany our beer and warm conversations.
Guess I'm getting old but nevertheless,
Fries + Beer + conversations with girly pals
makes a good relaxation session for the old me.
