Johor Bahru food trip & staycation

Took a day trip out to Johor Bahru and I stayed at Thistle Hotel. The highlight of the hotel has got to be the lovely pool. There are two sections, one for kids and the other for the adults. I had a quiet time catching up on my reading at the pool while R was conscientiously working out at the gym. My other favourite part of the hotel was the comfortable bed. It was so comfy that I actually flipped the bed over to check out the brand of the mattress. The one we have back at home is really uncomfortable and I'm really considering getting a new one when our new home arrives.

Anyhow, it was mainly an eating trip for us this time around. After R braved the horrendous jam that saw us being stuck at the checkpoint for a good 2 hours, we headed to get some food upon stepping into Malaysian.

We chanced upon this lovely dessert cafe while waiting for the rain to stop.
It's called Shakespeare Milkshakes and they served mainly ice cream, waffles and yoghurt. I had the matcha ice cream served with red bean and waffles. The ice cream serving was really generous but R refused to eat with me. This cafe thing is probably too girly for him.

This is R's kind of food - authentic mee rebus served alongside a bowl of semi-cooked eggs. Super instagram unworthy but I just had to accompany him if not he would whine the entire day. Anyway, to give the mee rebus some credit, it was really good cause the sauce was super thick unlike those diluted ones which I have back home.

Our dinner food - shabu shabu. This restaurant is located next to The Store and on the 2nd floor of a shophouse. They have a wide selection of food to choose from and food is sold ala carte style. We had three times the amount of food from what you see in the above photo and our total bill came up to abt SGD 30 per person. Quite reasonably considering we had beef, pork, fish, clams and vegetables.

We'll probably come back to Johor Bahru again but definitely not when the jam is so horrendous. Hoping to explore more good cafes the next time around. And hopefully R would be game enough to bring me there.
